FurReal Friends Butterscotch Pony is a 2007 winner of the Best Girls Toy of the Year award.  This toy is a miniature Shetland pony.  The long and flowing mane on this pony is one of its best features.  Girls and boy love to brush the pony’s mane.  This pony stands approximately 39 inches tall and is rated for use by children ages 4 through 10 years.  Her Butterscotch colors and markings resemble a real little pony.  Butterscotch can hold approximately 80 pounds.

Ride on horse toys provide stimulation to children to treat the pony as a pet, a friend, and to learn to care for it.  FurReal Friends Butterscotch Pony has sensors all over her body that are set to react to a little one’s voice or nearness.  The pony then reacts in a lifelike manner.  For example, when one little girl spoke to Butterscotch, the pony cocked her head in the direction of the sound and blinked her eyes.  The little girl was astounded and the biggest smile spread across her face.  Six “D” batteries enable the pony’s features to operate.  The pony also swishes her tail.

It arrives with a brush and halter, a carrot, and an adoption certificate.  Butterscotch loves to be groomed and fed, and she will make noises when your child is giving her attention.  When feeding the pony her carrot, she can even shake her head “no” if she is full.  The pony can react to petting by rubbing her head against your child and twitching her eyes.  Her eyes are realistic and sometimes appear to actually be looking at you.

Our staff advises assembling Butterscotch is fairly quick and easy, with clear and concise instructions to assist.  The average assembly time was 10 to 15 minutes.  It is recommended that the pony be completely assembled before the child sees it.  Some motor and gear noises can be heard coming from Butterscotch when she is fully functioning, but it didn’t seem to matter to the test participants.  The beauty and grace of the toy outweighs any minor gear noises.

Both parents and children alike were amazed at FurReal Friends Butterscotch Pony and her ability to act and perform much like a real pony.  The technology of toys is astounding these days.  Parents and purchasers should remember that even though this pony is seemingly advertised for little girls, little boys also like the pony and can be just as enthused with brushing her mane, feeding her, and caring for her.

Some parents have offered a concern that when purchased, the box that the pony arrives in has her picture all over it.  So, if it is for a birthday, a surprise, or Christmas, parents want to ensure, as best they can, that the child won’t see the box before it’s time to announce the gift.
