If your child fell in love with the movie, Cars, this is the toy you absolutely must purchase. This is Lightning McQueen at his best. This mode of electronic riding toys has amazing sound effects and real phrases from the movie. Power Wheels Lightning McQueen can operate on grass as well as smooth, hard surfaces. This version of battery powered ride on toys comes with a 12-volt rechargeable battery, as well as a battery charger.

This toy possesses the ability to move forward at 2.5 and 5.0 mph. It has a reverse position that operates at 2.5 mph. For beginners, and before they have taken and passed their “driving test” to assure they are driving up to par, there is a locking mechanism in place that has to be released by an adult to operate this toy at 5.0 mph. The little car also has a power brake system for automatically stopping the toy car.

Power Wheels Lightning McQueen is recommended for use by children aged 3 years to 6 years. If you have two children within these age brackets, they could have a lot of fun racing each other if they each owned one of the power wheels toys. During our testing session, it took some of the younger children a little while to get the steering down, but once they did, they were off and gone. It takes anyone a little practice to learn how to manipulate the car forward and backward, and get the steering precise.

Our staff, and a few helpful parents, reported that assembly was very minor and that the car was easy to put together. Most of the stickers come already on Power Wheels Lightning McQueen. The battery on this version of electric riding toys can last for about 2 ½ miles before it needs a recharge. Before the testing session was over, a couple of parents ended up jogging along with their children and this brand of battery powered ride on toys. They reported that the top speed of the car, 5.0 mph, was just right to jog with. As well, if they made it the entire 2 ½ miles that the battery is purported to last, that was a long enough jog/walk for them at one time. It was just the right amount of time to have to go in and recharge the battery (and the child and parent).

Staff and parents both gave Power Wheels Lightning McQueen high marks for its size. It is a good size for kids to ride along on the sidewalk, and it also proves easy to store in a minimal space in a garage or basement.

Some parents did offer a thought that this type of toy could also provide a seat belt. For all boys and girls who love to collect Hot Wheels, this version is an extra bonus because it has such a stylish look that everyone watching the little ones drive it around seem mesmerized by it.
